Coast Guard medevacs sailor from USS Oak Hill

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard medevaced a sailor Friday to the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth from the USS Oak Hill approximately 80 miles southeast of Cape Henry, Va.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 5th District Command Center received a call from the Oak Hill at approximately 9 p.m., Thursday requesting a medevac for a 27-year-old female sailor who sustained a laceration to her head after falling six feet.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., arrived on scene and transported the sailor to the medical center.

The sailor was reported to be in stable condition.

Dignitaries cut a ceremonial ribbon Jan. 10 officially opening a new around-the-clock child care center at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. The center begins receiving children at 7 a.m. on Jan. 11 and will never close.
