CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Coast Guard crews recovered a deceased male on South Padre Island, Friday.
At 7:20 a.m., an MH-65C rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Corpus Christi located the person near the Brazos Santiago jetties and lowered a rescue swimmer, who swam the man ashore. There he was transferred to an awaiting mobile Coast Guard recovery unit.
The man is believed to be one of the two men who went missing Wednesday while swimming near Isla Blanca Park. The identity of the recovered man is unknown at this time.
A rescue helicopter and HU-25 Falcon jet from Air Station Corpus Christi, a 41-foot Utility Boat from Station South Padre Island, and a Coast Guard Auxiliary aircraft continue to search the area for the remaining missing person in the water. A Coast Guard mobile unit also continues to search along the shoreline.
“Our air and surface unit with other state resources continue to aggressively search around the clock for survivors. Our prayers and sympathies go out to the families of the swimmers who passed away. The use of the Guardian unmanned drone to search for survivors throughout the night was very helpful during this very difficult time,” said Captain John Pasch, Commander, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi.

SANTA RITA, Guam – A missing canoeist was found alive and in good condition after a four-day multiagency search, approximately 350 miles southwest of Guam, Thursday.
The mariner was found on Federaci Island in the Ulithi Atoll by fishermen from Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia. He was transferred to the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Washington and is scheduled to return to his home on Fais Island.
Sector Guam watchstanders were notified Monday that the canoeist had not returned from a fishing trip as scheduled on Saturday.
An HC-130 Hercules aircraft from Air Station Barbers Point, Hawaii and a U.S. Navy P-3 Orion long-range search aircraft from Okinawa, Japan were launched on Monday to assist in the search. The crew of the cutter Washington was also sent out to search.
Citizens from FSM assisted in the search, providing use of local fishing vessels. Local mariners began a search for the canoeist two days earlier.
“This is an excellent example of multi-agency coordination and search effort,” said Lt. Gregg Maye, Sector Guam command center supervisor. “The Coast Guard is thankful for the continued support of its military and civilian partners, whose assistance was essential in the success of this mission.”
Coast Guard, Navy and FSM assets saturated the 11,536 square-mile search area for four days before the canoeist was found.
For more information contact Sector Guam’s public affairs officer Lt. j.g. Wade Thomson at 671-355-4866.
